DECOR
Traditional Wajima hand decor Maki-e "蒔絵" and Chinkin "沈金" are available for custom made orders. For Craft Master Selection series, we prepared red and black uruishi lacquer. Other colors are avaialable for custom made. All colors are hand applied. Names or short messages can also be carved to the chopsticks for custom made orders.
Maki-e decor is made by an artist who brushes designs with urushi lacquer and applies gold or other colored powder over the lacquer to color the design. On the other hand, Chinkin is a method to carve designs by lines and dots then inlay gold or other colors into the carving.
Both methods require extreamly high specialized skills which takes many years to obtain. The artists with these skills are limited, and they specialize only in Maki-e and Chinkin.
Our craft master has selected the specialists with the best skiils in Maki-e and Chinkin to add designs to his chopsticks. Designs are available for you to see on the custom made order page.
