OUR CRAFTSMAN   MASAKI KOYAMA

"As your family's craftsman, I would like you and as many people possible to enjoy meals everyday for a lifetime"

Masaki Koyama, craft master and president, Tebashiya

Tebashiya was founded in 1946 by Masaki's father in the city of Wajima . Tebashiya has been solely focused on traditional Wajima-Nuri chopsticks from the beginning. As the 2nd generation master, Masaki particulary believes that chopsticks must suit each persons size, strength and character, hence, custom made is the best way to have one's own chopsticks. He learned and studied when his father suffered a stroke and was no longer able hold his old set of chopsticks. He experimented over and over until he found the best size and weight combination for his father to hold chopsticks once again. Since then, he analyzed many people and he is now able to identify just the right set looking at the size of customer's hands, height, age and other characteristics.

His atelier is now run by him and his son.
